Interior, Exterior, or Both?

Most people know they want the house painted, but fewer know where to start.

Start with what’s failing. Peeling exterior paint is not cosmetic. Once the film breaks, moisture reaches the substrate, and what was a paint job becomes a repair job. Interior paint that has dulled or scuffed is a comfort issue, not a structural one. If your budget only covers one, the exterior usually has the stronger claim.
Start with what’s visible. If you are selling, buyers form an opinion at the curb and confirm it in the front rooms. House painting in Ottawa ahead of a listing is one of the few improvements that reliably returns more than it costs.
Book both together whenever possible. Interior work runs year-round. Preparation: Paint is only as good as the surface it adheres to. Washing, scraping, sanding, filling, and priming account for most of the labour on a proper job and none of the visible result. It is the first thing cut when a quote is driven down to a number.
Product: Premium lines cover in fewer coats, hold colour longer, and clean without burnishing. Across a full house, the material difference is a few hundred dollars. The durability difference lasts for years.
Conditions: Exterior coatings require consistent temperatures and dry surfaces to cure. A finish applied during a cold snap or before rain can look correct for one season, then fail at the first freeze-thaw cycle.
People: Cutting a clean line, feathering a repair, and knowing when a second coat is genuinely needed. None of it is visible in a quote. All of it is visible on the wall.
